TURBO PIPELINE PRO 2010 - AMAURY LAVERNHE WINS

Well it was a pretty amazing day at pipe. Conditions improved throughout the day, the riders were pushing and rushing hard and the final was epic with non stop waves and exchanges of high scoring rides. The fellas that made the final deserved it as they were the consistent standouts throughout the days competition. Damian King was picking the right waves and surfing tight, Amaury Lavernhe always seemed to be in the right place at the right time and was surfing amazing, and then there were two new young fresh faces Jared Housten form South Africa boosting of huge backdoor ramps and Diego Cabrera from the Canary Islands charging deep spitting barrels and boosting large at both Pipe and Backdoor.

In the end though it was Amaury sealing the win with a 10 point ride. A deep long barrel pulling up at the end to launch a huge backflip and landing it sweet.

Amazing final and a great way to start the IBA WORLD BODYBOARDING TOUR for 2010.

Congratulations to all involved and the finalists. Epic.

TURBO PIPELINE PRO - 25th FEB NO COMP & BIG FRIDAY

A little birdy told me the comp wont be held today, thursday 25th and will be run tomorrow regardless of conditions as it is the last day of the waiting period. Looks like it could be solid and offshore, fingers crossed.

It looks solid all day but the peak of the swell will hit around 11am on Friday. If the comp starts at 8am (most likely) the swell should peak for heats 7 and 8 of round 7. So we will get to see Mitch Rawlins AUS, Kainoa McGee HAW, Michael Olster SAF, Christopher Kalima HAW and Oliver Herrera CNY, Guillermo Cobo CNY, Sacha Specker SAF, Alex Uranga SPN get amongst it in the peak of the big stuff! Then the top 16 will be awaiting those that make it, frothing to get in the brunt of the swell.

Kane Cox - perfect 10 - Pipe Comp 2007

Should be an epic day. Will it be as good as 1997 "The Contest"? (prayed for earlier by http://thephlow.blogspot.com/2010/02/turbo-pipeline-pro-2010.html)

or better? Stay up late or get up early and watch it all here.

TURBO PIPELINE PRO 2010 1st DAY OF COMP

The Turbo Pipe comp was held on Friday 12th in contestable conditions. The morning was a bit average but as the winds picked up and cleaned the swell more there were some great waves coming through and the fellas were surfing insane. Standouts were Drew Innocend and Tom Smith, throwing themselves into anything on Backdoor and boosting out into the famous very shallow backdoor flats.

Canarians Salomon Moore, Pablo Claveras, Hector Mihalic and Dani Cid surfed really well and all won their first heats only to be unlucky to not make their second heats. Although surfing powerful and with solid style throughout the their heats they just didnt manage to find that winning wave. For their first year in Hawaii and in the Pipeline comp they did a good job and represented The Canary Islands professionally. They for sure earnt some useful experience for next year.

The next lot of Canarians enter in the later rounds. Diego Cabrera, Airam Cabrera, Ardiel Jimenez, Oliver Herrera and Guillermo Cobo. The forecasts say there is a new swell and good winds so fingers crossed for some more amazing surfing to go down. Monday 8am Hawaiian time will start the next rounds and you can check it here http://www.fluidzone.com/pipe.
